Simon Coe, Business Manager of Borregaard delivers his report of
World Specialty Pulp Application
Mr. Zhang divides his report into 6 parts.
1. Introduction to Cellulose. He introduced two major sources of cellulose are wood and cotton, cellulose's decovery history.
2. What is Cellulose/Specialty Cellulose. Cellulose produced from wood and cotton is usually graded by application upon purity.
3. Typical requirements of specialty cellulose:
Very high purity* (high α-cellulose)
Very low levels of impurities (chemical impurities, taste, taint, odour etc.)
Consistent quality
Quality assured and certified to all relevant Quality and Environmental standards
Narrow and tailored specifications for each customers’ process/application
Sustainable, natural, renewable
Non-genetically modified (non-GMO) for certain applications
For regulated applications stringent and lengthy qualification is typical
4. Specialty Cellulose Applications. Cellulose has been used to produce various cellulose derivatives: cellulose acetate, cellulose ethers, nitrocellulose, microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC), Specialty Paper and Cellophane.
5. Specialty Cellulose Supply/Demand, and Market Development/Outlook.
6. Borregaard Update.
