Uzbekistan takes more measures to promote textile industry development in 2020
Text size
Recently, the "latest measures on further development of cotton and textile production" adopted by the government of Uzbekistan came into force. In 2020, Uzbekistan will reform 14 cotton textile clusters such as Karakalpakstan, Andijan, kashkadaria, Namangan, Surhan River and hualazimo, and increase cotton planting area of 18 cotton textile clusters in 8 states. In addition, Uzbekistani government will allocate irrigated land to all cotton producers.

Uzbekistan's president Mirziyoyev has made it clear that Uzbekistan will stop cotton exports from 2020.

These measures show the firm determination of Ukraine to transform from a traditional cotton producing country to a textile one. There are two main reasons why the government actively seeks transformation. On the one hand, it attaches great importance to the higher added value of textiles. On the other hand, it sees its huge potential in the field of textiles. Uzbekistan, as a traditional cotton growing country and known as the "platinum country" in Central Asia, is one of the major cotton producing and exporting countries in the world. The development of textile industry not only gives full play to the raw material cost advantage of self-produced cotton, but also quickly realizes the upgrading and promotion of local industry and promote the economic development of all regions through the combination of foreign advanced technology and capital.

In order to speed up the development of textile industry, Uzbekistan has continuously created important opportunities for itself in the past two years and is vigorously promoting the improvement of cotton planting quality and efficiency. On the one hand, through screening and reducing the unsuitable cotton land, the cotton planting will continue to concentrate in the suitable areas, so as to improve the scale and benefit of cotton planting; on the other hand, by accelerating the construction of reservoirs and other measures to ensure that cotton can be fully irrigated in the growth process to improve the yield and quality of cotton. As to processing and production, the government's continuous supporting policies not only provide better guarantee for the development of textile mills, but also rapidly enhance the attraction of this field to foreign capital. According to the data of Uzbekistan Textile Industry Association, Turkey, South Korea, China, Singapore, Switzerland and other multinational capitals are actively participating in the development of Uzbekistani textile industry. At present, more than 150 foreign-funded textile enterprises are operating and producing in Uzbekistan, of which 50 are foreign-funded enterprises.

In addition to the policy, unique location advantage, which is located in the hinterland of Central Asia and the main transport route of Eurasia, is also highly valued by foreign investors. The government clearly proposed that in the process of developing international cooperation, regional representative organizations of Uzbekistani Textile Industry Association will be established to drive the markets of CIS, Europe and Southeast Asia.
